Markets Work

How can we fix a problem if we can’t even identify it?   As painful and scary as these times might be, they really present an incredible opportunity to take inventory of ourselves..and our lives.

Nobody is more difficult to be honest with than ourselves.  We are quick to point out a splinter in someone else’s eye, but we miss the log in our own.

We tend to judge ourselves by our intentions, but judge others by their actions.  Think about that.

We can all be better on both sides of that statement – judge others less and be more honest about our own behaviors.  Judging ourselves based off our actions, rather than our intentions, can serve as a foundation for us to change and grow.

Authenticity is the most attractive trait of a leader.  Having a true understanding ourselves, our strengths as well as our weaknesses, is the key to authentic leadership.  Understanding our weaknesses is really our greatest strength.

Markets work.  The world is a giant marketplace and each one of us is compensated for the value we bring to it. We are like stocks in the S&P 500.  The marketplace (aka: reality) does an incredible job of making sure we are priced to our authentic self.  Our income statement and balance sheets don’t lie…and they are much more transparent and observable than we think.

The world will take us at our own valuation, but only if this valuation is accurate. The only way to greater self worth is through greater self work. There are no shortcuts.  We cannot fake our own value.

Again, if you want more than you got you need to become more than you are.

FUNDAMENTAL IN ACTION: Awareness

This pandemic is no different than other trying times, adversity is opportunity with the right attitude. Take advantage of these slower times to plan out your daily life. Take advantage of these times to become proactive with your life, not reactive.

Have you ever gone to the grocery store, hungry, and without a list?  What happens?  You end up filling our cart with things you really don’t need.  You should be filling your cart with good nutrition for the week, but instead you fill your cart with Lucky Charms and Pop Tarts.  When you don’t have a plan, when you don’t prioritize your list, you will fill your cart with the wrong things.  Life is no different.

Remember: this too shall past.
