Who You Hang With

Time is our most precious asset, how we spend it defines our lives.

If you struggle with managing your time, begin with just focusing on spending it with the right people. Who you hang out with is maybe the most important decision you can make each day.  Why?

Because we are really just an average of the 5 people closest to us.

As great and original as most of us think we are, we really are all just students of life. Some just better than others. We subconsciously copy and learn the traits and characteristics of those around us. If you want to get better, spend your time with better people.

Humility is a great gift because it allows our minds and souls to work past our ego, opening ourselves to new wisdom and growth. A rocket scientist who thinks he has nothing to learn from a shoe salesman, will just always be a rocket scientist.

Weekly Action

Take an hour or so this afternoon and look at the people whom you spend your discretionary time with and ask yourself, does that person make me better or worse? I’m not asking you to look at your friendships as if they were just business relationships. Quite the opposite really. I’d actually recommend looking at your business relationships as if they were friendships.

Hang out with the right crowd this week. A lot of our growth and success in life is like a cycling peloton (riding with a pack of other riders). If we can get in the middle of the right people, we don’t have to do all the hard work all the time.

They will carry and make us better.

Make it a great week. Matt
