TODAY: Created something…
Having authentic self esteem lies in simply doing esteem-able acts. There are no shortcuts.
Self esteem grows when you do the things you said you’d do. It grows when you do the right thing when nobody is looking. It grows when you don’t exaggerate your story to make yourself look better. You don’t need to run a marathon or build a successful business to build self esteem. It’s actually the little things that build it. Simple but hard.
To be secure, you need to stop doing insecure things.
You might tell a coworker that you successfully ran a marathon, where in reality you just ran a 10k. Them believing this about you may give you an immediate “hit” of satisfaction, but in the end you are really rotting your self esteem. When you tell yourself that you won’t drink at tomorrow’s party, but you end up having a few beers, you again ding your self esteem. Or, perhaps the greatest enemy to authentic living and self esteem, are secrets. Secrets will ruin you, including the little ones.
I’ve said this before, but our egos usually consists of 3 different people. We are who we think we are, we are who we think others think we are, and then lastly we are who we really are. When you do esteem-able acts, it’s easier to be authentic. When you can be authentic, the ego collapses and you can just be one person… who you really are. That feels good🤙
You can’t think your way into a better way of living, you have to live your way into a new way of thinking. It’s about action, and as usual, there are no shortcuts
The truth will set you free.
Imagine how’d you feel at days end if…
You made your bed and left the house with no messes to come home to
You meditated or prayed for 15 minutes
You ate healthy
You allotted time for some form of self care…and did it
You did your absolute best at work
You met all your obligations
You listened to understand, and not just to respond
You took the day on life’s terms, not needing a drink, chemical, or quick fix from the external world to manage yourself
You lived with truth…in all matters. No secrets
Don’t miss an opportunity this week to keep your mouth shut👍 Seriously. Listen and be truthful to yourself and others. You’ll find it’s very difficult to not interject yourself into conversations and share your opinion, thoughts, or ideas. There’s something powerful about just sitting in your thoughts and observing. Strangely, when you don’t tell someone how great you are (even if you really are!) you end up actually feeling better about yourself! You realize you don’t need external validation to value yourself. You realize that you are enough as is! Of course there is the right time to speak, but be efficient with your words.
Lastly, no secrets either. A good rule of thumb – Don’t do one thing that you wouldn’t share with your grandma👍
